Welcome to the Canadian Avalanche Association’s Advanced Weather course.
This advanced course is designed to build upon the weather interpretation and analysis skills participants obtained in the Introduction to Weather course, and to deepen their understanding of how weather affects the mountain snowpack and avalanche conditions. In addition, students will be introduced to the more advanced principles and tools of mountain meteorology, such as numerical weather prediction models and weather forecasting techniques. Taught by leading forecasters and meteorologists in Canada this course is designed for anyone interested in knowing more about weather and its interaction in mountainous regions.
This 3-day course is full and intense. What you get out of this course will be in direct proportion to the time you spend on your pre-course work.
Please be sure to review the ITP COVID-19 Information webpage. We will be updating the page and procedures as we adapt to provincial health guidelines. It is also important that you understand the protocols required for this upcoming season, and we recommend you review the Declaration of Health and Symptoms on Course sections in detail.
Besides the mailed student resource package this will be the only written correspondence from the CAA regarding your course. Please contact the CAA directly (250-837-2435) if you have any questions.
Below you will find pertinent information for your course. Take the time to read it carefully.
We wish you well on your travels this winter and success during your course.
Sincerely,
Andrea Lustenberger
Industry Training Program Manager
