Affiliate Membership

Affiliate Members

Affiliate membership is for individuals who wish to be connected to the industry and enjoy some of the benefits of membership early in their career. These individuals may be considering becoming practitioners in the future, or have other personal or professional reasons to wish to be connected and informed about the CAA and the avalanche industry in general. Affiliate members do not need to log continuing professional development (CPD). For more information contact Membership Services to discuss your objectives, before applying.

Affiliate members have completed the CAA’s Industry Training Program Avalanche Operations Level 1 (or equivalent) and are engaged in avalanche-related activities on a regular or part time basis.

The CAA bylaws define “avalanche-related activities” as:

Avalanche forecasting or control, including: field work necessary to evaluate avalanches and avalanche conditions; avalanche hazard mitigation such as public warnings; restriction of human activities in avalanche-prone areas; guiding in avalanche terrain; avalanche control with explosives and other means; search and rescue in avalanche terrain; decision-making that affects the safety of persons and property with regard to avalanches and avalanche conditions; and other activities to protect against seasonally fluctuating avalanche conditions;
  2. Education, training or consulting involving the transfer of expert knowledge and/or experience regarding avalanches or protection against avalanches; and/or
  3. Scientific or technical services involving the assessment, development or delivery of information, products or services for protection against avalanches.

Affiliate members are expected to follow the Scope of Practice Statement, CAA Code of Ethics.
