Welcome to the Canadian Avalanche Association’s Avalanche Control Blasting (Blasting) course.
This two-day, classroom-based course is full and intense. The Blasting course provides training in the safe application of avalanche control blasting operations. Curriculum has been designed by explosives and avalanche industry experts, and with the generous assistance of the BC Workers' Compensation Board. Core content, that is common for all avalanche control blasting followed by industry, is covered in this course. As well, this course endorses procedures for hand charge, cornice, helicopter and Avalauncher missions
.There is no use of explosives on this course.
Evaluation: There is a small formal evaluation of learning (written exam) for this course. This exam will be based on the student manual and course
lectures. Students are required to pass this exam. Ask instructors questions throughout the course to clarify any material presented.

Pre-course preparation checklist
- Check this page again 2 weeks prior to course start date.
- You will be mailed a package containing a student manual. The readings in the student manual are very technical; we recommend giving yourself a few weeks to read the manual so that you can take breaks. Make a note of any questions you have.
- Please refer to your online registration confirmation email for a view-only link to the student manual. You will receive a hard copy of the manual at the start of the course.
- Bring snacks and drinks to class.

Equipment List
COVID 19 requirements: Students are responsible for bringing their own personal protective equipment. Student must have a personal sized container of hand sanitizer which they carry with them at all times, two or more face masks*, and an extra pair of
gloves for field based courses.
Bring a pen and paper, or laptop, for note-taking during the presentations. This is a classroom-based course and most of you are used to being active during your day, so mentally prepare yourself for a classroom setting and come to class having
exercised in the morning or plan to exercise at lunch if needed. Snacks and drinks needs should be organized in advance and brought to class. On the second day there may be a field trip to a magazine, so bring appropriate clothing for the
weather.

Transportation
Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the course location, and field locations. Carpooling is only recommended for students who are from the same household.
If your course requires lift access, tickets are provided by your instructors. If you have a season's pass for the area please bring this with you.

There are a lot of options for accommodation in Revelstoke. You can visit Tourism Revelstoke for information on local hostels, hotels, motels, campgrounds, and B & B’s.
