Advanced Avalanche Educator Recognized Certification Membership

The CAA recognizes certifications from other organizations when both organizations’ believe a significant portion of the required competencies are met on on a different course. To qualify for the recognized certification process, you will need to hold a current membership with the association from which you are showing a qualification.

For the Advanced Avalanche Educator, this creates a direct application process where only course certificates and a reference are required to apply for membership. We aim to process these applications within five business days.

Please carefully read the Advanced Avalanche Educator application process and ensure you attach all documentation below so your application is processed as quickly as possible.

The following certifications have been assessed for Advanced Avalanche Educator membership:

  • ACMG Full Ski Guide
  • ACMG Mountain Guide
  • ACMG Full Alpine Guide
  • CSGA Level 3
  • CMBGA Level 3

Members of the ACMG should honor the limitations on the method of travel for which you have been certified.

If you are an Avalanche Professional, you do not need to apply to become an Avalanche Educator, as you are already permitted to teach AST. Avalanche Practitioners may teach AST 1 and CRS, if you are looking to teach AST2, you can either become an Advanced Avalanche Educator or an Avalanche Professional. Advanced Avalanche Educators have a much more limited scope than Avalanche Professionals. You may only hold one type of CAA membership at a time.

The requirements for this application are as follows:

Following approval, you will be notified and invoiced. Paying the invoice will start your Advanced Avalanche Educator membership. Annual dues cover December 1 to November 30 and are $236.20 + applicable tax. Half dues are charged for memberships starting from June onward.

Personal information

It is the applicant's responsibility to arrange for an Avalanche Professional to submit one reference on their behalf. The application will not be considered complete until this is submitted. I acknowledge that as an Advanced Avalanche EducatorI have a limited scope of practice teaching under an Avalanche Safety Plan in ATES rated simple or challenging terrain unless another qualification permits otherwise as per the guidelines in GIAT. I understand that at any point the CAA may request to see my Avalanche Safety Plan.
