- Instructing in Avalanche Terrain – Foundations

- IAT-B Pre-Course Workbook which includes:

Pre-Course Assignment 1- Lesson Plan Development

Pre-Course Assignment 2- Risk Management

- Familiarisation with Guidelines for Instruction in Avalanche Terrain (GIAT)

- Thorough working knowledge of a mapping app including: CalTapo, Gaia GPS, or Google Earth.

- Studying terrain in the Fernie backcountry area

- Applying Parks Canada ATES ratings to the area

- Keeping track of weather, Avalanche Bulletins & Mountain Conditions Report in the Fernie area
