Dear CAA Introduction to Weather participants,

Welcome to the Canadian Avalanche Association’s Introduction to Weather course.

This two-day, classroom-based course is designed for anyone interested in knowing more about weather and its interaction with mountainous regions. The focus of the course is fundamental weather theory, which is essential to understanding forecasts and internet-based weather resources.

The Introduction to Weather course is full and intense. What you get out of this course is directly proportional to the time you spend on your pre-course work.

Other than the mailed student resource package this will be the only written correspondence from the CAA regarding your course. Please contact the CAA directly (250-837-2435) if you have any questions.

Below you will find pertinent information for your course. Take the time to read it carefully.

We wish you well on your travels this winter and success during your course.

Equipment List

The Introduction to Weather course is a classroom-based course. Come prepared with your laptop, power cable, student manual and pen/notepaper. As this is a classroom course and most of you will be used to being active during your day, mentally prepare yourself for a classroom setting and come to class having exercised in the morning or plan to exercise at lunch if needed. Snacks and drinks should be organized in advance and brought to class. There is a lunch break but it is not long so having a prepared lunch is beneficial.
