CPD requirements

Active members must abide by the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) guidelines. Members are not required to submit their CPD activity record to the CAA however, the membership committee annually selects a number of active members to be audited, at which time you must be able to provide them with your CPD record.

Membership fee

Active member dues are $162.50 + tax, billed annually in December.

Application Process

Individuals applying for active membership must submit an application form (link below), pay the $25 application fee, and arrange for one current CAA professional member to submit references. Professional members can login to their CAA account and submit a reference form found within the members only site.

A candidate may apply for CAA Level 1 course equivalency if they have sufficient career accomplishments, educational, and/or professional experience to earn a CAA course certificate without attending a course. Course equivalency should be completed prior to applying for active membership.

Active membership application form

The membership committee is responsible for processing membership applications. They are assisted by membership services staff. Questions relating to application processing should be directed to  membership services staff.

The CAA bylaws, this website and the application forms outline requirements for membership. Processing times for applications depend on a number of factors including the availability of the membership committee members who are active avalanche professionals with associated work commitments. The committee aims to process applications within two weeks, however applications where referees or applicants need to be contacted for supplementary information often take longer.
