Dear @@FIRST_NAME@@,

On behalf of the crew at the Canadian Avalanche Association, thank you for being part of our Professional Membership this past year. Our strength as an association derives from the programs and services delivered by CAA members. Your participation is appreciated by the board, committee members and staff, as we strive collectively to earn and maintain the confidence of the Canadian public and industry.

Here is a recap of the efforts and gains achieved by your association in the past year to advance professionalism in the Canadian avalanche industry. The CAA:

  • advocated for the suspension of guideline G06-03 to increase safety for CAA members. Working with Canada West Ski Areas Association and the federal Explosives Regulatory Division (ERD), we were able to build a better regulation that lowers the risk of deploying explosives to both members and the public;
  • delivered resources in The Avalanche Journal to help incorporate Technical Aspects of Snow Avalanche Risk Management (TASARM) into your practice;
  • worked with the InfoEx Advisory Committee to create a new, affordable “Class I” subscription type for individual CAA members;
  • facilitated CPD opportunities at the CAA Spring Conference exploring advanced risk management. A second fall series, hosted in Revelstoke, included several hands-on sessions hosted in partnership with the ACMG;
  • captured the exchange of knowledge at our annual spring meetings via video recordings and hosted that content on our website for members to review and digest;
  • successfully applied for federal matching NSERC funding to continue the Simon Fraser University Chair in Avalanche Risk Management position held by Pascal Haegeli; and
  • confirmed a new strategic plan to guide the association’s direction for the next four years.
