The CAA would like to congratulate Simon Fraser University on their new Research Chair in Avalanche Risk Management at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, BC, and Dr. Pascal Haegeli for being appointed to the position. The five-year term of the Research Chair is supported by contributions from the CAA, Canadian Pacific Railway, HeliCat Canada, Avalanche Canada and Avalanche Canada Foundation.
The new Research Chair aims to complement traditional avalanche research by combining the natural science understanding of the avalanche phenomenon with human factors research, notes Haegeli.
"The Canadian Avalanche Association is proud to support the SFU Research Chair in Avalanche Risk Management. Our members are committed to the best possible avalanche risk management possible. Encouraging and promoting avalanche risk management research and development in Canada is natural extension of our commitment. This partnership is critical to continue the strong tradition of avalanche research in Canada, connecting avalanche risk management practitioners and researchers. Pascal Haegeli’s exploration of human factors will add critical new dimensions to Canada’s strong body of existing research. We offer warm congratulations to Dr. Pascal Haegeli and to SFU and look forward to rolling up our sleeves to begin the important work that lies ahead."
